Fine Double-Bladed Penknife with Horn Grip Inset with Silver and Mother of Pearl
Here on offer is a top quality double-bladed penknife with a dark horn grip, inset with silver and mother of pearl.
The penknife has two smooth dark horn grip scales, one has been inset with a pattern of wavy silver wire and small pieces of Mother of Pearl, making a very attractive finish.
Both scales are held in place against the brass liners, by three brass pins.
It has two polished steel blades, that open and close perfectly, with a “snap”, one at each end of the knife.
Both blades are sharp and in excellent condition, with just some very light age staining.
There are no maker’s details on the blades or knife, but it is probably a Sheffield made knife.
It is a very “pretty” knife and I would imagine was originally made as a ladies’ knife, possibly Victorian?
The longer blade measures 1. 5” (3.8cm) and the shorter blade 1.25” (3.2cm). Closed the knife measures 2.6” (6.6cm) long.
It weighs 16g.
