Vintage Traditional Decorated Sami Knife made from Reindeer Antler

Here on offer is a vintage traditional decorated Sami knife made from reindeer antler.

The Sami are an indigenous people of northern Scandinavia, Finland and the Russian border region, traditionally reindeer herders and fishermen.

The single edged polished steel blade is 3.5” (9cm) long and has a really well fitting carved and decorated solid antler grip. The blade has some age and now shows some light greying to the finish.

The hand carved ‘scrimshaw’ decoration on the grip, is of a wave and dot design.

The antler itself also looks to have some real age given the old scratches and wear on the back.

I believe these knifes where made for the tourist trade back in the 1960’s.

A fine example of a Sami knife, that makes a great display item and can only increase in value!

It measures 10” (25.4cm) long, tip to tip and has a 3.5” (9cm) long blade.

It weighs 185g.
