Scarce Vintage Hunting Wide Blade Bowie Knife by W.H. FAGAN & SON with Stacked Leather Grip and Leather Sheath

Here on offer is a vintage hunting, wide bladed Bowie knife by W.H. FAGAN & SON, with a stacked leather grip and leather sheath.

W.H. Fagan & Son (also known as W.H. Fagan & Co.) was an English tool retailer and cutlery merchant historically associated with Sheffield in England.

The company operated primarily as a merchant or hardware dealer rather than a standalone cutlery factory. They sourced high-quality blades from local Sheffield craftsmen or imported them from reputable blade-making regions like Solingen, Germany, branding them under the Fagan name

This Bowie/hunting knife is actually in great condition and has a 4.7” polished steel Sheffield made blade.

The impressive wide bowie shaped blade does have some light scratch marks and dark age staining, that I am sure would polish out.

On one side of the ricasso is stamped:

W.H. FAGAN
& SON

On the other side it is stamped:

MADE IN
SHEFFIELD
ENGLAND

The “fat” and very comfortable leather grip has a brass single finger guard, along with aluminium plus red and black ringed spacers at both ends of the stacked dark leather ringed section. There is a couple of dents to the leather section, one on each side.

At the top it is fitted with an unusual dome shaped black pommel, made from what appears to be a composite hard plastic.

It comes with a brown leather stitched and riveted sheath, fitted with a slotted belt loop and press stud retaining strap, at the top.

This very well made knife would make a great addition to any Bowie knife collection.

Because W.H. Fagan was a distributor rather than a massive industrial manufacturer like George Wostenholm or Joseph Rodgers, their pieces are relatively scarce today.

Well-preserved examples typically command prices ranging from £110 to upwards of £375+

The blade measures 4.7” (12cm) long and the knife itself is a total of 8.9” (22.5cm) long.

Including the sheath, it weighs 205g.
