Stunning Oman Arabic Khanjar Dagger with Fine Silver and Gold-Plated Filigree Work and a Piqué Handle

Here on offer is a beautiful example of a vintage Omani Khanjar Dagger with silver and gold-plated filigree work and a Camel bone handle with Piqué work.

I was told that is dagger had been presented some years ago, to an English man, who was the chauffer of one of the Sultans of Oman. It had then been kept in a display case (out of the sun), ever since.

I fell in love with this dagger and had to pay a lot for it, but understand that they are still hand crafted in Oman today, with prices exceeding £3000!

This truly impressive example has a traditionally shaped camel bone handle as I believe the tradition dictates, that has a finely applied pattern of silver Piqué work on the top and the front, along with two gold-plated coned studs.

The handle fits tightly to the double-edged curved steel blade that has a central ridge. The blade, which seems to possibly be antique, has an overall dark staining to its finish, but no rust and is actually in excellent condition.

The blade and wide ferrell fits tightly into the sheath, known as an “Asib”, that is made of wood covered on the front with ornately worked silver and gold-plated filigree work, along with some chased silver panelling.

Attached in the centre is a raised decorated bridge with loops that would attach to a waist belt/sash.

The back is covered with a beige velvet cloth.

The dagger has a 7” (17.7cm) curved blade and the dagger in its sheath measures approximately 12” (30.5cm) long.

It weighs 705g.
