Vintage Hunting Knife with 5.25” Bowie Blade, Stag Grip and Black Leather Sheath by Hirschkrone of Solingen
Here on offer is a Vintage German Hunting Knife by Hirschkrone of Solingen.
It has a 5.25” bowie blade and an impressive stag horn grip. It comes with a black leather sheath
Hirschkrone, which translates to "deer crown" or "stag crown" was a mid-to-late 20th-century German cutlery brand. The company ceased production operations in the 1970s, making all remaining pieces vintage.
On one side of the polished stainless steel bowie blade, it is etched with:
HIRSCHKRONE
SOLINGEN
STAINLESS
There are now some light scratch marks on both sides of the blade that I think would polish out, with some metal polishing cream.
The aluminium cross guard has ball shaped finials and is in great condition.
The grip has been made from a solid piece of fine stag antler horn that is finished at both ends with a couple of thick leather and coloured plastic spacers.
The aluminium pommel is shaped with an angled, bird’s-head or slant style typical of vintage German Bowie style knives. It is held securely in place by a recessed brass nut.
It comes with a black leather stitched and riveted sheath, with a slotted belt loop and retaining strap with a press stud.
This is actually a really impressive bowie knife that is well balanced to hold.
The blade measures 5.25” (13.4cm) and the whole knife measures 9.5” (24.1cm) long.
It weighs 205g.
