Cased Army Athletic Association Silver Plated Medallion Awarded for Army Boys Cross Country Championships “A” – Winner J/RFN. R. STEWARD 1960

Here on offer is a vintage cased Army Athletic Association silver plated medallion awarded for Army Boys Cross Country Championships “A” – winner J/RFN. R. STEWARD 1960.

The obverse depicts the image of the Greek god Hermes, seated on the ground, adjusting his winged sandals (pédila). He is also wearing a winged traveller’s hat (petasos) and has a staff entwined with snakes (the caduceus).

It also has the words, in raised lettering:

ARMY ATHLETIC
ASSOCIATION

The reverse it has a raised laurel wreath, that is engraved inside with the winner’s details:

The medallion appears to be made from bronze that has been silver plated, which now shows some loss in the raised areas of Hermes.

The medallion still retains its original silk and velvet lined black leatherette case, that is in great condition.

There is no maker’s details on the medallion or the case, but it is a very well made piece, similar to those made by Phillips of Aldershot.

The medallion measures 1.75” (4.5cm) diameter and weighs 50g.
