Vintage British Railway Rectangular Cast Iron 1 ¼ Track Cant Plate

Here on offer is a fine example of a vintage British Railway rectangular cast iron 1 ¼ track cant plate.

This type of small rectangular cant plate is a highly collectible piece of lineside railwayana, used historically to indicate a track elevation (cant or superelevation) of exactly 1.25 inches on a curve.

Trackmen used them to easily verify the track's banking angle on curves. Fastened directly to wooden or concrete sleepers in the "4-foot" section next to the highest rail.

This example is in excellent condition and possibly has never been used.
These original physical way-side indicators are actively traded among railway history enthusiasts.

It measures 4.7” (11.6cm) by 2.6” (6.5cm) and weighs a heavy 318g.
