Mint “Fisherman’s Pride” Multi-Function German Fishing Pliers with Cardboard Box c1960

Here on offer is a scarce example of a mint condition “Fisherman’s Pride” multi-function German fishing pliers, with their original cardboard box, circa 1960.

My understanding is there where a number of different versions of German fishing pliers that were made between the 1950’s and 1970’s.

Apparently the most outrageous variation of the German fishing pliers, is this type, known as the Fisherman’s Pride.

Using a cast aluminium housing riveted to the chromed steel chassis, the craftsman from Solingen Germany made the handles thicker, allowing room for both the knife blade and the fish scaler/hook disgorger/cap lifter blade, to be located in just one of the plier handles.

In the other handle resides a fully functional fish weight scale, with folding hook, that weighs up to 11 Lbs or 5 Kilos. There is also a 36 inch retractable metal tape measure, in inches and cm’s.

The front of one handle has raised lettering that reads:

Made in Germany
Not Legal for Trade

DBGM stands for Deutsches Bundes-Gebrauchsmuster, which translates to "German Federal Registered Design". It is a legally registered patent-like protection for functional designs in Germany.

On the other handle it reads:

FISHERMAN’S PRIDE

The pliers come with their original cardboard box that depicts the image of the pliers on the top.

The plier heads do not fold up to a more compact size like a modern Leatherman. Yet the fact that each tool was designed to accomplish a wide range of tasks, in one handy package, is considered that they are the forerunners of the modern multi tool.

The pliers are in mint condition and look to have never been used. The plier head is still very stiff to open and close, just like new!

End to end the pliers measure 7” (17.8cm) and weigh a heavy 310g.
