Vintage British Military Three-Piece Stainless Steel Clasp Knife by Brooks & Hardwidge dated 1999 with Braided Lanyard and Snap Hook

Here on offer is a Vintage British Military Three-Piece Stainless Steel Clasp Knife by Brooks & Hardwidge (BH), dated 1999 with a braided lanyard and snap hook.

This three-piece type of clasp knife, has a single 2.4” plain blade, a large bottle/can opener
and a large folding marlinspike, for rope work.

There is a also flat headed screwdriver at the front end and a lanyard ring at the other end.

On the front grip plate, it is stamped with the NATO Stock Number (NSN), maker (BH), Broad Arrow and date of manufacture.

The Sheffield maker, Brookes & Hardwidge (BH) is an uncommon maker of these clasp knives, which makes this example a great collector’s piece.

The blade and can opener are both stamped on the ricasso with:

The blade and tools fold into the grip, making it compact and easy to carry. I have lightly oiled (with gun oil) the blade/tool joints as they are stiff to open.

The knife looks to have been used with just some minor wear/scratches to the blade as shown in my photos.

What makes this example unusual, is the fact it has a 7.75” long skilfully braided lanyard, attached to the ring, with a metal snap hook attached to the other end.


The strong metal snap hook is a British military issued piece, stamped with a Nato Stock Number (NSN) 5340-99-117-7194, along with other issue marks.

The blade cutting edge measures 2.4” (6cm) long and the knife when closed is 3.9” (10cm) long, excluding the lanyard ring.

It weighs 210g with the lanyard and snap hook.
