Stunning Vintage Folding Lock Knife with Damascus Blade Etched with an Eagle Scene by Herbertz Messer

Here on offer is a mint and stunning example of a vintage folding lock knife with a Damascus blade etched with an eagle scene by Herbertz Messer, circa 1990.

This is a rare knife and I can’t find another such example, with what I believe has a model number 208813?

The grip is made up of a dark richly grained section of African hardwood on each side, held in place by three metal pins. Inset on the front is a small oval metal plaque, depicting the Herbertz logo.

The stainless steel bolsters on this knife are just beautiful and have a slight burnished finish over a black background that highlights the fine swirling scroll work.

The top edge of the spring plate is polished steel with a recessed locking release area at the base.

The sharp folding 4” single edged clip point Damascus blade is made from 440 stainless steel. The Damacus steel shows a beautiful deep waterfall pattern and on the front blade it has been etched with a scene of a swopping eagle set within scrolling leaves. This is a true work of art in my opinion.

It also has the maker’s name and details stamped on the blade tang:

C. JUL. HERBERTZ
ROSTFREI 440
208813

The knife is in mint unused condition and is possible a limited edition piece?
The blade measures 4” (10.2cm) long with a cutting edge of 3.6” (9.2cm) and the knife when opened is 8.75” (22.3cm) in total length.

It weighs 168g including the box.
