Mint Ornate Vintage Folding Lock Knife by Herbertz Messer with Lined Wooden Box

Here on offer is a mint example of an ornate vintage collectors lock knife by Herbertz Messer of Solingen.

The grip is made up of a richly grained section of Pakka wood on each side.

My understanding is that Pakka wood is a man-made, wood-resin composite material created by impregnating thin layers of hardwood with coloured resin and bonding them under pressure and heat. This process creates a durable, water-resistant, and stable material that is frequently used for knife handles, as it is very hardwearing. It is known for its ability to mimic the appearance of exotic hardwoods and its resistance to warping, splitting, and moisture.

The bolsters on this knife are just beautiful and have a burnished finish over a black background that highlights the fine swirling scroll work.

The top edge of the spring plate is polished steel with a recessed locking release area at the base.

The sharp folding 2.9” single edged clip point blade is made from 420 stainless steel and has the Herbertz logo and MESSER etched on one side.

It also has the maker’s name and details stamped on the blade tang:

The knife is in mint unused condition and is possible a limited edition piece?
It comes with a black felt lined wooden case that has the Herbertz logo impressed into the top of the lid.

The blade measures 3.4” (8.5cm) long with a cutting edge of 2.9” (7.4cm) and the knife when opened is 7.5” (19cm) in total length.

It weighs 254g including the box.
