WW1 Australian Commonwealth Military Forces Cap Badge
Here on offer is a WW1 Australian Commonwealth Military Forces Cap Badge.
This Australian army “Rising Sun” badge is made from pressed brass and now has a age patina to the finish.
The front depicts a radiating pattern representing sun with a King’s crown at the centre and inscribed banner across bottom, that reads:
AUSTRALIAN COMMONWEALTH
MILITARY FORCES
On the reverse it has two lugs and its original split pin, used to secure the badge to a slouch hat.
Rising sun badges were used on Australian military uniforms as hat badges and collar badges (smaller). This badge has been used by the Australian army since 1902, undergoing seven different design phases. This badge is an example of the third pattern, designed in 1904 and in use during both World Wars, although the Australian War Memorial notes that the words 'Australian Commonwealth Military Forces' were characteristically used on WW1 badges.
The badge itself is in excellent condition with very little age related oxidisation.
It measures 2.5” (6.4cm) by 1.7” (4.3cm) and weighs 12g.
