Antique Mid 18th Century 'Chinoiserie' Delftware Plate Depicting a Bird and Flowers c1750
Here on offer is an antique mid 18th century 'Chinoiserie' blue and white painted tin-glazed delftware plate.
It depicts an oriental pheasant type bird sitting on a fence with a floral border.
There is no makers mark, which is common with such early pieces, but it is most likely Liverpool delftware, circa 1750.
Unfortunately, is has an old crack running almost right across the centre of the plate as shown in my photos. It still has an old metal wall hanging ‘four pronged” fixing on the back, which I think has really helped to keep the plate in one piece and secure over the years. There are also a few edge nicks that occurs on this type of early earthenware pottery.
Even with the damage it still displays well and is actually a very attractive antique piece of delftware.
It measures 9” (22.8cm) diameter and is 1” (2.5cm) deep.
It weighs 410g
