Antique Olive Wood Greek KEPKYPA (Corfu) Walking Stick with Carved Grip Depicting an Elephant’s Head and a Bearded Man’s Head
Here on offer is an original antique olive wood Greek KEPKYPA (Corfu) walking stick with carved grip depicting an elephant’s head and a bearded man’s head.
This unique walking stick has been hand carved with the grip depicting an elephant’s head with its trunk acting as a handle/grip.
On the front of the stick is the detailed image of a bearded man’s head wearing a helmet, which could be one of the classical figures like Hephaestus or another ancient philosopher.
Just below the grip, it is engraved with:
KEPKYPA
The people on the Corfu Island make these hand-sculpted olivewood walking sticks. In Kepkypa (Corfu), olive wood is seen as the wood of ‘life and new beginnings.
The olive wood shaft is in excellent condition and seems to have lost the original metal ferrule cover, but has a very old large iron screw fitted in the tip acting as a ferrule tip.
The walking stick measures 36.25” (92cm) long and has a diameter of approximately 0.9” (2.2cm).
It weighs 300g.
