Rare Georgian Period Gold and Whitby Jet Maltese Cross Pendant c1830
Here on offer is a rare Georgian gold and Whitby Jet Maltese cross pendant, circa 1830.
This striking brooch features a bold geometric design in the shape of Maltese cross with four Whitby Jet stone triangular segments. These are held in place by a central gold collet setting, that in turn fit around a center square crystal compartment. The clear crystal “windows” have bevelled edges and cover a finely chased cris-cross pattern gold center.
The top segment is fitted with a 15ct gold suspension ring.
The top segment has a chip to one corner of the Whitby Jet stone, as shown in my photos.
This is just a beautiful piece of rare Georgian jewellery that can still be worn today.
It measures 1.5” (3.8cm) square and weighs 7g.
