Antique Bone Handled Folding Button Hook c1890

Here on offer is an antique bone handled folding button hook, dating from around 1890.

The handle scales have been carved from bone or a similar more expensive material that is now a lovely cream colour. The scales are neatly pinned in place with three brass pins. There is a small loop hole at the top, so it may have originally had a suspension loop?
It now has some age stains and three tiny hairline cracks and a nibble at the top.

The hook is made from steel and displays a some very light age staining.

It has brass liners and bolsters and the hook closes neatly away and retains its strong hinge.

This really is a wonderful little Victorian collectable, that in its time, would have been carried in a bag or pocket, and used for buttons on shoes and clothes.

It measures 3.5” (8.9cm) when fully open and 2.1” (5.5cm) when closed and weighs 13g.
