Beautiful Near Mint WW2 Kriegsmarine Officers Sword by Carl Eickhorn with Bullion Dress Knot
Here on offer is a beautiful example of a near mint WW2 period Kriegsmarine Officers Sword by Carl Eickhorn, fitted with a long bullion dress knot.
As you would expect from a Carl Eickhorn made sword, the detailing to the castings is exceptional and they are in superb condition, with no damage.
The sword retains all the original gilding to all the fittings, which include; the lions head hilt and knuckle guard, the folding cross guard and anchor clamshell and the three scabbard fittings. There is just the very slightest rubbing the top of the lions head and the front of the knuckle guard.
The the white celluloid grip is in mint condition and retains the tightly fitting trple twisted gilt wire in the grip groves.
The 29.5” long brightly polished plain piped-back blade is in near mint condition, with just a couple of tiny “pin head” dark spots, that would polish out, I am sure. On one side near the crossguard, it is stamped with the famous Carl Eickhorn Squirrel maker’s mark which dates this sword to the 1935 to 1941 Nazi period.
The sword fits snuggly into the leather covered scabbard, with its three gilt scabbard fittings.
The leather has a few light scuff marks and the lower fitting has a shallow dent, more than likely caused by closing a train door on it, which was a common occurrence, apparently back in those days!
The sword is fitted with its full-length silver bullion portepee or knot that is in excellent condition, with just a light rub mark where it rests against folding crossguard.
The German Naval dress swords remained virtually unchanged from WW1 and didn’t carry any swastikas on the exterior at all! The design of the sword carried in the late 1920’s (Weimar period) and the Third Reich era were virtually identical, and obviously officers who served in the Weimar navy carried their swords into the 1930’s and 1940’s.
This fine Eickhorn example was made during the Nazi period and it would be hard to find a better example.
The blade measures 29.5” (75cm) long and the whole sword (blade in scabbard) measures 35.5” (90.3cm).
It weighs a heavy 1.05Kg.
