WW2 British Military Open Faced Stopwatch – PATT. 3169
Here on offer is a genuine WW2 British military issued open face stopwatch.
It has a white face dial with black and red numbers, displayed in 5’s up to 60 seconds.
Then these is a single sweep black hand and a small, upper-face secondary dial with provision for 30 minutes. This is activated by pressing the top stem winder once, then again to stop the hand, then again to reset it back to 0.
The dial looks to be in undamaged condition, just a little dusty.
The glass is clear but has a slither missing on the edge between the numbers 25 and 30. This has let some dust into the dial, and is possibly worth getting replaced while it is having a clean/service?
The outer case seems to be nickel plated with just some minor wear. The reverse is engraved 'PATT 3169 that is above a large British military Broad Arrow and the issue number 23608.
The outer case hinges open and has an inner hinged cover, neither of which are marked. They just has some jewellers repair engraving on the inside of the outer cover.
The internal movement is marked but looks to be a Swiss, possibly by A.R. & J.E. Meylan? There are some letters scratched on the brass cover but they are hard to make out.
The stopwatch is in full working order, but as with all mechanical pocket watches I can’t guarantee it will be working after a journey through the postal system. I will however securely wrap and protect it for transit and would recommend it would benefit from a professional clean/service.
It measures 2” (5cm) diameter (excluding the winder) and weighs 87g.
