Original German WW1 1914 Iron Cross Medal 2nd Class with Long Ribbon
Here on offer is a fine example of a WW1 1914 German Iron Cross medal 2nd class.
This Cross has a magnetic core and a satin black finish to the centre that is in excellent condition. There is now genuine age tarnishing to the German silver frame, that will clean off if required, but I prefer to leave that option to the next owner.
The suspension ring is stamped with “800” for German quality silver and there is a maker’s mark which looks to be a “U” or “C” depending which way you view it, but even though both these marks are known to exist, the manufacturer is still classed as “unknown”.
It comes with a long length of original black and white striped ribbon that has been folded and is in excellent condition.
It measures approximately 1.75” (4.4cm) square and weighs 20g.
Please see my pictures for the details of the condition, which complement this description.
