Impressive Large Brass Antique Milners Safe Maker’s Name Plaque Mounted on Wooden Slab

Here on offer is an impressive large thick brass antique Milners Safe maker’s name plaque, that has been mounted on a wooden slab for wall hanging.

This large 8.5” domed circular version of their ornate safe crest plaque, displays the company crest (including the Royal warrant) in the centre and the MILNERS name at the top.

Below the crest are the words:

PATENT IMPROVED
FIRE-RESISTING & STRONG HOLDFAST SAFE

MILNER safes are the third oldest safe company in the UK. They were established in 1830.
The founder, Thomas Milner, originally a tinsmith and metal box-maker from Sheffield, set up a safe factory in Liverpool where he set about producing tin-plate and sheet iron boxes with his newly patented fire-resisting composition and was employing 35 men. From 1846, he moved on to strong plate iron safes and chests. Thomas died in 1849 leaving his son William as a partner in the newly named Milner & Son and so rapidly was the company growing that by 1851 they were employing 110 men.

The brand is recognised for its ornate features and detailed plaques and plates.

This polished plaque has been mounted on what looks to a rectangular oak slab with a brass fitting for hanging on a wall.

The plaque is in excellent, near mint condition, you won’t find a better example.

The circular plaque measures 8.5” (21.5cm) diameter excluding the fitting ‘wings’.

Mounted on the oak slab it weighs a heavy 2Kg.
