Beautiful Little Antique Folding Quill Knife with 0.8" Blade and MOP Grip
Here on offer is a beautifully made small antique folding quill knife, with a sharp single edged 0.8" steel blade.
A quill knife or quill cutter is used to shape bird feathers into pens for writing.
It has a brass bolster and liners with mother of pearl grip plates that are held in place with three brass pins.
There are no maker marks on the knife, but I believe it was made in Sheffield by one of the quality knife makers around 1880.
It is in excellent condition, with just some light greying to the finish of the steel blade.
The blade measures 0.8” (2.1cm) long and the whole knife when open measures 2.6” (6.6cm).
It weighs 5g.
