19th Century Victorian Presentation Music Conductor’s Mahogany Baton with Silver Fittings Dated 1882

Here on offer is an impressive 19th century Victorian presentation music conductor’s Mahogany baton with silver fittings dated 1882.

The baton has been made a piece of turned and tapered light Mahogany wood, with three silver fittings.

The silver fittings are not hallmarked but test as 925 grade sterling silver.

The pommel cap has a lovely engraved flower on the top and the sides are engraved with a striped triangle geometric pattern, which has also been applied to the silver tip.

Fitted to the tapered shaft is a finely engraved silver collar that has a presentation inscription that reads as:

PRESENTED TO
Mr. J. WARBURTON.
Decr 27th 1882.

The baton is in excellent condition. The wood looks to have been lightly varnished when it was made that has helped keep its beautiful light colouring. The only marks I can see is just some rub marks where the presentation silver collar has been pushed up the shaft to fit it tightly in place.

It measures 22.5” (57cm) long and is 1” (2.5cm) diameter at the top.
It weighs 122g.
