Humorous Vintage French Novelty ‘Peeing Boy of Brussel’s’ Bronzed Petrol Lighter

Here on offer is an unusual and humorous Vintage French Novelty ‘Peeing Boy of Brussel’s’, Bronzed Petrol Lighter, circa 1950.

I believe this item to be modelled after the famous 50cm “little boy urinating” fountain, Manneken Pis, also known as Petit Julien, that is located in the heart of Brussels.

This wonderful little bronze painted, cast white metal petrol lighter stands 3" tall.

His head pulls off for filling with lighter fluid, and the flint is inserted in his left foot.

To ignite the lighter, you lift his left arm up, that reveals the wick in his "private area”. Then you turn the flint wheel located in his left buttock "cheek", to create the spark, that in turn ignites the wick. To extinguish the flame, you just close his arm to cover the wick.

The back is marked: Bte S.G.D.G. which in French stands for "brevete sans garantie du gouvernement", or in English - patented without government guarantee.

The lighter is in excellent condition, retaining nearly all its original bronze paint.
It also appears to have never been used, as the wick and cotton are clean and free of odour.

There is no lighter fuel (petrol) in the lighter, to meet with shipping regulations.

It makes a great conversation piece and an impressive addition to any lighter collection.

It measures 3” (7.7cm) high by 1.3” (3.5cm) wide and weighs 85g.
