Souvenir Inert Bullet Keyring from the Cu Chi Tunnels near Saigon in Vietnam

Here on offer is a souvenir inert bullet keyring from the Cu Chi Tunnels near Saigon in Vietnam.

The Cu Chi Tunnels stretched over 250 miles from the western outskirts of Saigon to the Cambodia border. The tunnels had bunkrooms, hospital rooms, kitchens and even a few classrooms, along with escape hatches and trap doors everywhere.

When tourists visit the historical site of the Cu Chi Tunnels, near Saigon they can purchase items manufactured by skilled local craftsmen that are made from various bullet shells, from the shooting range at the Cu Chi tunnels. Such items as lighters, pens, lamps and keyrings, are popular souvenirs of their visit.

However, it appears that the Vietnamese Government and customs don’t allow such “bullet” related items to leave the country, so nearly all examples are confiscated! Therefore, tourists are now warned not to buy such products, so finding such examples outside of Vietnam is unusual.

This keyring consists of two M16 inert cartridges, with bullets that are bound together and held in place by two thin brass covers.

One cover has the following text printed in red on a label:

When the badge is on
the shouder my life
within an ace of death

On the other cover is printed:

CU CHI TUNNEL

The top has a normal split ring that allows you to attached your keys.

The keyring is in great condition, but the casings now have an aged patina to the finish.

An interesting piece of Vietnam War related memorabilia.

The keyring including the ring measures 3.75” (9.5cm) long and weighs 50g.
