Finely Engraved WW2 Aluminium Trench Art Pocket Petrol Lighter with Initials A.F.
Here on offer is a finely engraved WW2 period aluminium trench art pocket petrol lighter.
It appears to be made from aircraft grade aluminium, probably by interned POWs from downed WW2 aircraft metal?
On one side it depicts the image of a horse shoe with a branch from an oak tree, with leaves and two acorns. This image is set against a background of very fine hand chisel work, that gives a shimmering starburst effect when angled in the light.
Then on the other side there is the image of a daisy flower and the owners initials "A.F.", that are also set against a background of very fine hand chisel work.
The lighter’s frame is made from a sold piece of aluminium with slightly rounded edges and hinged lid cover.
All the metal elements and finely machined together, such that you can’t feel the joins!
The lid hinges open to reveal the original lighter wick, and the flint wheel still turns, but the spring is now pressed against it, stopping it from turning as the flint has been removed to meet shipping regulations.
At the bottom is a large screw that allows access to the lighter to be refuelled.
There is no lighter fuel (petrol) in the lighter, to also meet shipping regulations.
The lighter is in great condition and will make an impressive and unique addition to any lighter collection.
It measures 1.26” (3.4cm) wide, 2.3” (5.8cm) high and 0.5” (1.2cm) thick.
It weighs 62g.
