Original WW2 German Hitler Youth Belt with Buckle marked M4/22 - Christian Theodor Dicke, Lüdenscheid
Here on offer is an original WW2 period German Hitler Youth thick leather belt fitted with a rectangular shaped HJ buckle.
The buckle appears to be the zinc plated version that is in great condition with just minor plating loss, mainly to the edges.
The obverse displays in relief a standard Hitler Youth, HJ motif consisting of an eagle in the centre perched atop a HJ diamond, surrounded by a serrated circular border with an inner and outer rope, and the HJ motto “Blut und Ehre” (Blood and Honour).
The reverse has a double-prong claw swivel bar and belt hook.
On the inner lip, it has the raised small RZM circle that relates to the "Reichszeugmeisterei", the German National material control office.
On 16 March 1935 contract numbers were awarded to all RZM-approved manufacturers, and after that date the number appeared along with the RZM mark. Codes denoted the different categories of items. M1 was the RZM code for political medals and orders, M4 for belt buckles, M7 for daggers, M9 for badges, etc.
This buckle displays the RZM maker’s mark of M4/22, which relates to the maker;
Christian Theodor Dicke, Lüdenscheid
The leather belt remains in good supple but well used condition and still retains most of the felt backing.
The buckle is fitted in the set of holes, making the belt about a 36” wearable size.
From the clip end to the end of the belt it measures about 40” (101.5cm) long and weighs 200g.
