Vintage Cased Set of Four French Silver Plated Wine Tasters by Deschamps Frères - Orfevrerie Vulcan Paris c1930

Here on offer is a vintage cased set of four French silver plated wine tasters/tastevins.

They are actually made by the well renowned silversmiths, Deschamps Frères, 46 rue du Rocher, Paris, who were active from 1923 and I would date these tasters to circa 1930.

Interestingly they come in a fitted silk lined red case that has another French silversmith’s name embossed in gilt lettering on the inner edge, being:

ORFEVRERIE VULCAN PARIS

Therefore, it appears these were made by Deschamps Frères, but sold by Orfevrerie Vulcan.


Each of the circular tasters has a beautiful embossed decoration consisting of small half spheres set below larger half spheres and a section of relief stripes.

They each have a double ring handle, along with a thumb rest support.

Each of the tasters are also stamped French silver plate marks, 1 G and D Fes with a rooster’s head, which identifies them as being made by Deschamps Frères.

All the tasters are in excellent undamaged condition and now just have an aged patina to the silver plate.

The internal silk lining has some staining marks and there is a small tear where it hinges open.

These would make a great present for anybody who loves French wine and they can be still used today.

Each taster measures 1.9” (4.7cm) diameter, excluding the handle and weighs 20g.

The full set of four with the case weighs 163g.
