Rare 1939 New York World’s Fair - Metal and Enamel Souvenir Keychain

Here on offer is a rare 1939 New York World’s Fair, metal and enamel souvenir keychain.

The 1939 New York World's Fair was an international exposition held in Flushing Meadows–Corona Park in Queens, New York City from April 30, 1939 to October 31, 1940.

The fair's theme was "Building the World of Tomorrow" and commemorated the 150th anniversary of Washington's inauguration in New York City.

The fair featured exhibits, activities, performances, films, art, and food from 62 nations, 35 U.S. states and territories, and 1,400 organizations and companies.

The Trylon and Perisphere were two monumental modernistic structures designed by architects Wallace Harrison and J. Andre Fouilhoux that were together known as the Theme Center of the 1939 New York World’s Fair.

The Perisphere was a tremendous sphere, 180 feet (55 m) in diameter, connected to the 610-foot (190 m) spire-shaped Trylon by what was at the time the world's longest escalator.

Now the keychain itself consists of a disc shaped fob on a short chain. It seems to be made from nickel-plated brass and has in the centre a raised disc that depicts the Perisphere and Trylon set against blue enamel and surrounded with the words:

NEW YORK WORLD’S FAIR

that are set in red enamel.

It is in excellent condition with some age patina to the metal but all the enamel is still in place.

The fob disc measures 1” (2.5cm) diameter and it weighs 10.2g.
