Georgian Period Deer’s Foot Snuff Mull circa 1830

Here on offer is a scarce and early example of an antique Georgian period deer's foot snuff mull, circa 1830, probably Scottish.

These early Georgian period pieces were made without any metal fittings and are rare to find in this condition.

The snuff mull has removable lid to the top with its original shaped cork lining underneath, that was originally made to fit the opening with an airtight seal. The cork has now dried slightly and shrunk, so although it still fits it no longer makes an airtight seal.

The deer’s foot now has a beautiful deep colour to its finish and gives some beautiful lighter shades with the light shining through it.

The only damage I can see is a slight split to the top of one of the corners as shown in my photos, which don’t affect the integrity of the mull.

It measures 3.5” (8.8cm) long, 1.25” (3.2cm) deep, 1.7” (4.3cm) high and weighs 30g.
