Unique Sweetheart WW2 Perspex RAF Wings Emblem with Photo of a Child

Here on offer is a unique example of a personalised ‘sweetheart’ WW2 clear perspex RAF ‘wings’ emblem with a sweet photo of a child.

My understanding this was made from the perspex recovered from the canopies of damaged WW2 RAF fighter and bomber aircraft, such as Spitfires, Lancaster’s etc.

It has been made from one piece of clear perspex with RAF emblem shaped wings.

The centre section has an inset round sepia photo of a young child, a boy that is sealed from the back with a cut down silver threepence, that just shows the profile bust of George VI.

Above the photo on the front is a small brass King’s crown and on the back, there is just the remains of two pins that I suspect where originally attached to a ring or pin, to allow it to be worn as a pendant or a stickpin?

The brooch itself is in excellent original condition and is just a fine example of this type of WW2 perspex “trench art” and a unique piece!

It measures 0.9” (2.3cm) high and 2.7” (6.9cm) wing tip to wing tip.

It weighs 3.8g.
