Unusual WW2 Lady’s "Sweetheart" Black Patent Handbag with WW2 Royal Tank Regiment Cap Badge
Here on offer is a really unusual and possibly unique, WW2 lady’s "sweetheart" black patent handbag, fitted with a WW2 Royal Tank Regiment cap badge.
The handbag has clearly been used and loved and now the black patent has a crazed finish and is rubbed/missing on the corners.
The strap is also very fragile and is just about holding together at the top.
Inside it has a black silk lining which has come away at the top on one side, which allows you to get access to the pin on the back of the badge, so it can be removed for cleaning.
I have actually removed the badge for a light clean and it is a genuine WW2 period badge made from chrome plated brass metal with two lugs and a split pin on the back. The front has lost the plating to the high points through wear.
Inside the handbag it has two oval shaped pieces of postcard, on the back of the badge, to help hold it securely in place. Interestingly these have some handwriting on them that on one seems to read as ROAC 14716? and the other PARSONS REME MILTON.
Now also the inside of the metal frame has ‘WAMP’ scratched into it, which maybe the owner’s initials and the ‘P’ may relate to a surname of PARSONS?
The genuine WW2 cap badge, displays the King’s crown and has the tank image facing left, along with the words, ‘FEAR NAUGHT’ on a ribbon at the bottom.
The handbag measures 9” (23cm) by 7.3” (18.5cm), excluding the strap and it weighs 245g.
