Original and Complete Set of Cards for the WW2 Card Game “CONVOY” by Tree Brand c1940

Here on offer is an original and complete set of cards for the WW2 card game, “CONVOY”, published by Tree Brand, circa 1940.

The set consists of 49 cards in a thin cardboard case, including the compass and score cards and the game instructions. This set actually has an extra score card, making 5 in total.

All the cards in this set are in excellent condition, the score cards have been used and still retain some player game details, marked in pencil, that could be removed if required, but add to the appeal of this set in my opinion.

The card case is in good condition but has some rub marks to the corners and one of the main flaps is held in place with selloptape and a small side flap is missing.

“CONVOY” is a set collecting card game with a difference. Players take it in turns, in partnership with another player, to run wartime naval convoys. The two ‘convoying’ players are chosen at the beginning of the game by spinning the 'Compass' card. The other players try to stop the convoy getting through by collecting certain other cards (mines, torpedoes, submarines etc). After adding up the points the winner is the first to 1000 points.

Tree Brand has an interesting history as it was one of the many companies founded and owned by Philip Marx from 1939 up to the 1980s. The company published the ‘Flash’ comic from 1948/49. He also founded Ariel games and Philmar which was eventually acquired by Gibson’s.

The case measures 3.6” (9.2cm) by 2.4” (6cm) and 0.7” (1.6cm).

The set weighs 73g.
