Early Vintage Series 2 - Type 3 Civil Service Motoring Association CSMA Car Badge by Collins London c1930

Here on offer is a great example of a vintage Series 2, Type 3, Civil Service Motoring Association, CSMA, car badge by Collins of London, circa 1930.

This excellent early example of a Civil Service Motoring Association chromed brass and enamel car badge, topped with a King's Crown.

This piece retains all its original chrome finish which is clean and bright and has a deep and lustrous red glass enamel inlay, to crown.

On the reverse it is stamped with "COLLINS LONDON".

This example also comes with its black painted metal mounting bracket that is still attached by the two original nuts and bolts, that now have a slightly rusty finish, as does the bracket.

Some history of the CSMA - Civil Service Motoring Association.

In 1923 Frank Vernon Edwards, an executive officer with the ministry of labour and a group of civil servants, founded the Civil Service Motoring Association. Their intentions where for it to be a small motor sport organisation of around 300 members.
To this day membership is restricted to past and present members of the UK civil service and organisations formally part of the British Civil Service, for instance the Royal Mail.
In 1983 the association added breakdown service to its member services by forming Britannia Rescue, summoning 3,000 specialist roadside technicians in the UK.
In 2007 they sold Britannia Rescue to LV, but kept their leisure properties and the Cotswold Motoring Museum in Bourton-on-the-Water.

Badge measures 111mm x 94mm with two fixing holes on tab to base for attachment to badge bar (fixing not included)

This is a beautiful and early example of this organisation's badge, making a great addition to any collection.

The badge itself measures 3.75” (9.6cm) high by 3.75” (9.6cm) wide and with the bracket, weighs 198g.
