Antique Georgian Eight Sided Bone Spinning Top or Teetotum - Possibly made by a Napoleonic POW c1810
Here on offer is an antique Georgian bone eight sided spinning top or teetotum, commonly used for gambling games, circa 1810.
It could possibly be a French Napoleonic Prisoner of War made piece?
This example has been beautifully carved from bone, possibly ox or cow bone.
It would have originally had the numbers 1 to 8 painted on the eight flat surfaces, but these have long since been worn off.
The top and lower turned sections do unscrew from the main body, as can be seen in my photos.
It is in excellent condition with no cracks or repairs, and still spins very well!
The spinner measures 2.5” (6.5cm) high and 1.3” (3.2cm) wide across the flat surfaces.
It weighs 17g.
