Very Rare George V Coronation Commemorative Gilt Engraved Glass Decanter with Stopper 1911
Here on offer is a very rare George V Coronation commemorative gilt engraved glass decanter with stopper.
My understanding is only a small number of these decanters where ever made and they were given as commemorative gifts to senior dignities of the royal court, by the King.
The only example I can find of a commemorative glass decanter was slightly taller and thinner and sold at Sotheby's for £600.
This decanter has a handsome bulbous form, with a fluted cut glass collar where it tapers at the top and at the base. It has a hollow stopper that is finished with a nipple top.
On the body it has been beautifully engraved with the crowned cypher of GVR, with the date 1911, below, all finished with gilt.
This fine example is in mint condition with no chips or damage to the glass and it retains all the gilt finish to the engraving.
This will make a great addition to any royal memorabilia collection.
The decanter measures 9” (23cm) tall including the stopper by 4” (10.2cm) diameter and weighs 605g.
