Antique Mid-sized Bryant & May Tinplate Matchbox Cover with Coloured Poppies and Empty Matchbox
Here on offer is an early antique tinplate matchbox cover, decorated with different coloured poppy flowers on both sides, circa 1920.
I believe this scarce example was made as a memento of Remembrance Day, soon after the end of WW1.
It is made by Bryant & May of England and has BRYANT & MAY’S MATCHES printed on both sides of the cover.
Also included is an empty box of Bryant & May’s “BRYMAY” special safety matches as shown in my photos, which was found inside the matchbox cover. It does have some edge damage to the end of the box.
(Please note that no matches can be included due to postal regulations.)
The matchbox cover is in great condition, retaining most of the original paint, just some very minor chips to the paint on both sides. There is some very light tarnishing to the interior.
The matchbox cover measures 2.9” (7.4cm) by 2” (5.2cm) by 1.1” (2.8cm) and weighs 33g.
Please see my pictures for the details of the condition, which complement this description.
