WW2 Period Italian Fascist M.V.S.N. 2nd Pattern Dagger/Fighting Knife with Metal Scabbard

Here on offer is an original WW2 period Italian Fascist M.V.S.N. 2nd pattern large dagger/fighting knife with metal scabbard.

This type of dagger/fighting knife used by Italian & Axis troops during the time of Benito Mussolini from the early 1920s until 1943.

This "2nd pattern" MVSN dagger, unlike the first pattern, was completely and originally manufactured to the designs of the then new Fascist Party specification, and it was intended to serve both as a dress dagger and as a useful combat fighting knife.

It has an unfullered 8.25” (21cm) double edged blade, with spear-shaped point, that is in excellent condition with just some very slight greying to the finish and some tiny nicks to a 1cm section of the lower edge.

It looks to have never been sharpened which is rare to find on these knives, that where often used and abused as utility knives, after WW2.


The blade fits snuggly against the steel, slightly curved and rounded cross guard.

The dark coloured rosewood grip, has carved finger groves on one edge and now has a wonderful smooth patina to the finish. There are some age cracks and a tiny chip missing near the pommel, as shown in my photos. It secured by two steel, slightly pitted rivets to the tang and is topped with and flat steel pommel.

It comes with its original steel scabbard that has now lost its black paint finish, which could be repainted if so required, but I prefer to leave it as it is.

The front is embossed with the fascist logo of the famous bound axe and rods over M.V.S.N., which stands for "Milizia Volontara par la Sicurezza NSDAPonale", known globally as the Blackshirts.

On the reverse is a metal rectangular shaped belt loop, that is riveted in place.

The overall finish to the metal is actually excellent, with no dents or cracks and just some very light age pitting and dark staining. It has an internal brass throat at the top, that is held in place with a screw.

This is a great example of what is now a scarce dagger/knife, that has not been messed about with and is just in untouched condition.

The blade measures 8.25” (21cm) long and the knife is 12.7” (32.1cm) in total length.

It weighs 350g.
