Antique Victorian Red Leather Covered Oval Gilt Brass Traveling Inkwell c1890
Here on offer is a fine example of an antique Victorian red leather covered oval gilt brass traveling inkwell, circa 1890.
The outer red leather covering is still in excellent condition and it retains the word “INK” embossed in gilt lettering on the top of the lid.
The lid opens when the concealed button on the front is pressed, but the spring is now slightly loose and doesn’t hold the lid fully open. However, it is held open when the spring-loaded lid that seals the glass inkwell is released by pulling the small lever to the side.
You can then gain access to remove the clear glass inkwell, which looks like it has never been used.
The internal gilt metal fittings display some fine scroll work, chiseled into the finish.
It measures 1.8” (4.6cm) wide by 1.6” (4cm) deep and 1.2” (3cm) high.
It weighs 46g.
