Rare Antique Hand Carved Wooden Native Indian Chief Pipe Rack c1900
The carved heads themselves are very detailed and depict the style of the classic Native Indian Chief, as often seen on large carved cigar store advertising figures of that period.
I can only find similar examples of Indian Chief head pipes, but no pipe racks, making this a very rare and highly collectable piece of early Native Indian art.
The pipe rack is in great condition with some wear to the paint on the heads, as can be seen in the photos and the head on the far left seems to have had its nose repaired at some point in its life.
I love the way the glass eyes have been fitted slight “skewed” which actually gives them a comical appeal.
The pipe rack measures 11.5” (29.2cm) wide and the heads are approximately 3.5” (8.8cm) high.
It weighs 235g.
