Cased Pair of Hallmarked Silver Winston Churchill Centenary 1874 - 1974 Goblets by Toye Kenning & Spencer Limited Edition - 435 & 436 of 500
Here on offer is a cased pair of limited edition hallmarked solid sterling silver “Winston Churchill Centenary 1874 – 1974” goblets, by Toye Kenning & Spencer Ltd.
These fine quality limited edition goblets were produced to commemorate the Winston Churchill centenary in 1974. They are individually numbered 435 and 436 of a worldwide issue of only 500 goblets and are highly collectable.
Each goblet has a fine gilt finished interior and depicts the raised image of the bust of Winston Churchill fitted to the front, surrounded with the words:
CHURCHILL CENTENARY 1874 – 1974
On the back is a clear set of large English silver hallmarks, the Lion Passant for English silver (925), an anchor for the assay office of Birmingham and the date letter “Z” for the year 1974.
It also shows the makers mark, that reads as “TK&S” which relates to the English maker:
Toye Kenning & Spencer Ltd
They are a well-known Masonic outfitters and quality jewellers, of 19-21 Great Queen Street, London WC2B 5BE
Underneath the base, each goblet is also stamped with the Lion Passant and the date letter “Z”.
They are also hand engraved with the unique limited edition number, being 435/500 on one and 436/500 on the other.
The set comes with its original blue leatherette fitted case, with a silk lined padded lid. It is in excellent condition, but does have one of the brass locking clips missing at the front, but the lid is still held closed with the remaining clip.
Also included are the individual card certificates for the goblets, each showing their unique numbers.
Each goblet measures 5.25” (13.3cm) tall and 3” (7.6cm) dimeter at the top.
One goblet weighs 155g and the other 143g of solid sterling silver and with the case they weigh a total of 1Kg.
I have to mention that the silver scrap value of the two goblets at today’s prices (28/10/24) is £209, not that I ever envisage them being scrapped, but they do have a minimum precious metal value.
