Large Antique Georgian Inlaid Wooden Jewellery Box
Here on offer is a large antique Georgian inlaid wooden jewellery box.
This beautiful box seems to have been made from rosewood and has been inlaid, mainly on the lid, with some unique and ornate designs, using various coloured African and fruit woods. It has a image of a box inlaid on the front edge.
I think this may well have been made back in the Georgian period, circa 1830.
In side it has a removable top tray, that would have been used to store smaller items, like rings, brooches, etc.
It has never been lined with cloth or silk, so may well have been made as gentleman’s box, that is big enough to even store shirt collars in the base?
It still retains its lock, but there is now no key. The base has been replaced at some point in its life with hardboard with a blue felt covered base.
It is in excellent condition, with just some light scratches and dings and it retains a lot of the colour to the inlaid wood.
It measures 11” (28cm) wide by 8.75” (22.3cm) deep and 6” (15.3cm) high.
It weighs a heavy 1.97Kg.
