Unique Scottish Dress Dirk depicting Herm of Zeus Ammon and using a WW2 K98 Blade with Leather Scabbard and Ensuite Knife and Fork
Here on offer is a unique Scottish dress dirk depicting a detailed brass pommel, in the image of the head of “Herm of Zeus Ammon”.
Herm of Zeus Ammon, was a syncretic deity of early classical origins, part man, part beast. The facial features are human but the ears and the coiling of the ram's horns are bestial.
The brass grip and scabbard mounts are engraved with Scottish Celtic patterns.
The black leather covered metal scabbard is also fitted with two brass “pockets” that hold a brass knife and fork; both are set with a light amber coloured Citrine stone as a pommel.
Now the blade on this handmade piece is from an original WW2 period, German (K98) M1884/98 III bayonet.
The single edged 10” blade is in excellent condition with its full blade length fuller.
It is stamped with the letters “bym” on the ricasso, which relates to the Austrian maker:
Genossenschafts Maschinenhaus der Büchsenmacher in Ferlach (Austria) made between 1939-1945.
The scabbard I think is also from a WW2 period K98 bayonet and has been covered in black leather and fitted with brass mounts and pockets for the knife and fork. The top mount has a rectangular loop fitted on the back and a thick leather loop has been stitched in place so this example can be suspended from a belt.
This is really a fine and impressive handmade vintage Scottish dirk that is in excellent condition and makes a unique addition to any collection.
The blade measures 10” (25.4cm) long and the whole dirk is 16.2” (41cm) long. It fits snuggly into the scabbard and then measures a total of 18” (45.7cm) long.
It weighs a heavy 835g.
