Scarce Danish Carlsberg Bryggerierne “The Carlsberg Breweries” Swastika Advertising Medal c1920
Here on offer is a scarce Danish Carlsberg Bryggerierne “The Carlsberg Breweries” Swastika advertising medal circa 1920.
The Swastika was used by Carlsberg as their Trademark and these medals were in the years up until WW2, souvenir/ advertising items for the Danish Carlsberg beer company.
The Swastika’s on the medals were used as a symbol of peace in the pre-WW2 period. After the war, it was however for obvious reasons removed from the Carlsberg products.
This makes it now a rare and highly collectable advertising medal for the famous Danish Carlsberg brewer company, founded by J.C. Jacobsen in 1847.
The front of the medal depicts the Swastika set in the centre of a star, along with wheat stalks and ears. There are also the words in raised lettering:
CARLSBERG BRYGGERIERNE
STIFTET
1847
On the back it seems to show the image of the brewery with two elephants as pillar supports and some hops with leaves.
Some of the plating has now worn of the highpoints on the medal but the detailing is still nice and clear as can be seen in my photos. It would have also originally had a suspension ring at the top, which is now missing but can be easily replaced.
It measures 1.25” (3.2cm) high by 1” (2.5cm) wide and weighs 8.4g.
