WW1 French Bronze Medallion – Remembrance of the Combatants of Meudon 1914 – 1918 by L Coudray with Original case
Here on offer is a WW1 French Bronze Medallion, in remembrance of the combatants of Meudon 1914 – 1918, by Marie-Alexandre-Lucien Coudray, with its original red card case.
The medal was designed by the famous French medallist, Marie Alexandre Lucien Coudray (1864-1932).
On the obverse it depicts the image of a WW1 French soldier about to throw a grenade, with an angel with a laurel branch, above his head. Near the lower edge it is engraved, L Coudray.
On the reverse it depicts the crest for the French city of Meudon and the words:
Souvenir de la Grande Gurre
Aux Combattaants Meudonnais
1914 – 1918
LA VILLE de MEUDON
RECONNAISSANTE A
This roughly translates in English to read as:
Remembrance of the Great War
To the Combatants of Meudon
1914 – 1918
The grateful City of Meudon
The edge is plain apart from it has a tiny Paris maker’s mark and the word BRONZE stamped into it.
The medallion is in excellent condition and still retains the fine detailing along with a beautiful aged patina to the bronze.
It also comes with its original recessed red card case, which is in great condition and a rare to find!
The medal measures 1.9” (5cm) diameter and weighs 55g.
