Antique Silver Plated Double Glass Inkwell and Pen Rest with Hunting Theme by Hammond Turner & Sons

Here on offer is an antique silver-plated desk, double glass inkwell and pen rest with deer hunting theme, by Hammond Turner & Sons, Birmingham.

This beautiful silver-plated desk inkwell and pen rest, has an ornate design around the edges and on the front and rear, (they mirror each other) a stag’s head along with a hunting horn, riding stirrup and antler.

On the underside it is impressed with:

H T & S E P N S ENGLAND

H T & S is the makers mark, which relates to Hammond Turner & Sons, of Birmingham, England.

The firm claims its origin in the 18th century as button makers, but after the 1850s they appear to have concentrated on other metal items. Sterling silver marks were registered in Birmingham Assay Office from c. 1890 to c. 1932. A limited company Hammond Turner & Sons was established in 1903.

Then there are two smooth undamaged cranberry coloured glass ink wells, with silver plated hinged lids. They fitted snugly into to ornate raised circular rims fitted on the top.

Overall, it is in excellent condition, with just some light pitting marks to the silver plating.

It measures 11.5” (29.2cm) by 7.5” (18.4cm) and weighs a heavy 930g.
