Charming Antique Victorian Brass Vesta Case depicting a Smartly Dressed Frog – “Jeremy Fisher” c1870
Here on offer is a charming antique Victorian brass vesta case depicting a smartly dressed frog, “Jeremy Fisher”, circa 1870.
The vesta features a frog who appears to be smartly dressed with a jacket, very much like the famous frog “Jeremy Fisher” depicted in the Beatrix Potter books.
The frog’s head acts as the lid of the vesta and is hinged with a nice firm action.
There is a striker plate embedded into front of his chest.
What is nice about this fine example is it still retains the thin brass webbed feet that enable it be carefully balanced to stand upright. Often these feet get broken off!
There are no visible marks on the item and it now has a wonderful aged patina finish to the brass.
It is in excellent condition and makes a great addition to any vesta collection.
It measures 1.8” (4.6cm) high by 1.1” (2.9cm) high and 0.8” (2cm) thick.
It weighs 16g.
