Souvenir Metal Dish Commemorating the Chicago World's Fair 1933 - 1934 depicting Fort Dearborn

Here on offer is in a souvenir metal dish commemorating the Chicago World's Fair held in 1933 thru 1934, depicting an image of Fort Dearborn.

Fort Dearborn was featured at the 1933–1934 Chicago Century of Progress International Exposition as part of an exhibit and construction display.

This highly detailed oval dish was actually made in Japan from cast antimony that has then been gilt-plated.

For some reason, the raised letters MADE IN JAPAN have been removed from the back, possibly because of Japan’s involvement in WW2.

On the front, it depicts a scene of Chicago’s skyline, with a Zeppelin and mono plane in flight. Below this scene is the image of Fort Dearbon.

Around the edge of the dish is an ornate swirling pieced pattern, which has partly split away at the top and has been glued back in place and now seems secure.

On the reverse it retains the importer’s details in raised letters:

It measures 7.5” (19cm) by 5.3” (13.5cm) and weighs 160g.
