Boer War Period British Officer’s “Blue Cloth Helmet” Metal Hat Tin – Owned by H.F. Collingridge – 2nd Lt with The Royal Scots
Here on offer is a British Officer’s blue cloth helmet metal hat tin owned by H.T. Collingridge, a 2nd Lieutenant with The Royal Scots circa 1900.
The tin has an oval maker's brass plate, for W. Cater & Co, 56 Pall Mall, London S.W.
There is also the owner's brass plate engraved with:
H.F. Collingridge
The Royal Scots.
From what little research I have done, it appears he served as a 2nd Lieutenant with The Royal Scots and served in the Boer War.
The tin itself has some minor dents but is in great condition for its age, retaining a lot of the original finish, with some slight surface rust.
It retains the carrying loop on the top and the metal lid hinge and lock clasp at the front, are in full working order.
It measures 12” (30.5cm) high, including the carrying loop and 12.5” (31.8cm) wide by 9.5” (24.2cm) deep
It weighs 1.24Kg.
