Small Antique Cold Painted Bronze “Birds Nest” Lidded Desk Inkwell c1880

Here on offer is a really sweet, small antique cold painted bronze “birds’ nest” lidded desk inkwell, circa 1880.

This beautiful small inkwell cast in bronze, depicts a birds’ nest with three white painted eggs on the top/lid.

It shows fine detailing of brown painted grasses and straw that make up the body of the nest, with some small painted branches around the outside.

The lid with the eggs hinges up to give access to the sealed inkwell and the way the lid fits into the recess, I don’t think it ever had a liner.


Overall, it is in great condition, with just a small section of branch missing at the front and some paint ships as can be seen in my photos.

There are no maker’s marks that I can see, but it looks to be possibly Austrian.

It measures 1.3” (3.3cm) high, 1.7” (4.3cm) diameter and weighs 90g.
