Antique Scottish Pewter and Deer’s Foot Table Snuff Mull by John Durie - 1830-1868
Here on offer is an antique Scottish pewter deer's foot table snuff mull by John Durie of Edinburgh who worked between 1830 and 1868.
The snuff mull has a pewter hinged lid to the top, with the makers mark/name, DURIE clearly visible inside the lid.
It is in excellent condition with the pewter now having a pleasing silver-grey finish, with age related some shallow dents and scratches.
The deer’s foot now has a beautiful deep colour to its finish. The only damage I can see is a tiny loss to the thin edge inside the mull, where it connects to the pewter pin. This don’t affect the integrity of the mull.
The mull is still in working order with a fitting hinged lid and makes a wonderful display piece from this famous Scottish maker.
It measures 3.3” (8.4cm) long, 1.5” (3.8cm) deep, 1.7” (4.3cm) high and weighs 88g.
